Consonantal drift.

I am relearning Arabic.  One letter, the consonant ayin (literally, ‘eye’), is especially nice.  Here it is:  


Climates are changing.  An unexpected snowstorm in the Middle East renders characters starkly visible; a group of women appear calligraphic against a snowbank while ayin looks on.
